PRESS RELEASE
PWSB Drought
Advisory
11/7/07
Since
we have experienced an extended period of unusually dry weather, the Pawtucket
Water Supply Board is issuing a drought advisory to all of our customers in
Pawtucket, Central Falls, and the Valley Falls section of Cumberland. As part of the advisory, we would request
that all users make necessary efforts to use water efficiently and to conserve
water when possible. We have included
some water conservation tips below for your reference.
Currently
our water supplies are still within normal operating ranges and we are not in
any imminent danger, but the extended dry period is cause for concern and
requires careful monitoring of our supplies.
The total capacity of the PWSB surface water system is currently about
21% below the five year average as a result of the extended dry period. We have not had any significant rainfall
since July and are currently running at a rainfall deficit for the year. If the current weather patterns continue
through the winter and we are unable to replenish the water supply, there may
be a need to implement water restrictions in the spring.
The
purpose of this advisory is to make our customers aware of the fact that we are
experiencing below average rainfall for the year and as a result our reservoir
system is below the normal operating level.
With this in mind we would request that customers make every effort to
use water efficiently and to conserve water whenever possible. For further information or assistance, please
contact the PWSB at 401-729-5002.
